DESCRIPTION:
APW - Otay Watch Co, Otay, California, 15J, 18S, HC model mvt in sidewinder orientation in nickel OF display case, white enamel SS dial, SW-LS, "Adjusted" marked mvt, gilt mvt, s#30027. This scarce and short-lived southern California maker was only in production from May to November of 1890, with a total output of about 1200 watches made.
CONDITION:
Mvt: NR, likely broken mainspring, balance will tick briefly after a twist, overhaul needed, excellent-plus cosmetic mvt condition overall, good overall gilt tone with some mild darkening around main plate jewel settings, few micro-fine scratches; nearly flawless dial with few minuscule scattered edge and surface nicks, small fine scratch near 3; fine hands with oxide; case shows no sign of having held another mvt during its history, case shows virtually no wear, few pinpoint nicks to band near 12; tight bow, crown shows virtually no wear; good glass crystals.
